Epsom Ladies’s hoodoo against Southampton continued on Saturday after a 3-0 loss on the south coast.
The side has not won in Southampton since 2003, and they looked determined to change that after starting positively in the opening stages in their first league match of the season.
Yet the class of Southampton soon told as they took the lead midway through the first half, converting a penalty corner just inside the post.
In the second period, Southampton added two more goals to the scoreboard to put the game well and truly to bed.
Epsom will now hope to put this defeat behind them, and a home tie against Havant is next up.
Meanwhile, the seconds had a winning start to the Surrey Premier League season with a 2-0 win against Barnes. Captain Laura McQuade and Stacey Bone were on the score sheet.
The thirds played out a 1-1 draw against Cheam seconds in Surrey Division Two, with Epsom's goal coming from Katrina Dutton.
