Danny Williams will lose his British heavyweight title if he doesn’t win Prizefighter Heavyweights 3 this Friday evening at ExCel Arena, London Docklands, writes Ziad Chaudry.
The 36-year-old Brixton Bomber retained his title over John McDermott back in May at Crowtree Leisure Centre, Sunderland but under the British Boxing Board of Control rules he will have to vacant the belt outright if he fails to win the £32,000 top prize.
“If I lose to any of these British fighters then I lose the British title and that will apply to the Prizefighter event as well,” said Williams.
“But I'm in fantastic shape for this. I can't remember being as excited about a fight in years.
"When you've been in the sport 14 years and fought the likes of Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko there are only certain fights that you can really get up for.
Williams could meet great bitter rival former Olympic champion Audley Harrison in the final showdown if he can get past his first round opponent Carl Baker and the winner of former British champion Scott Gammer and Coleman Barrett.
