Malory Eagles moved to the top of Volleyball's national league with an assured 3-0 win over Newcastle Staffs at the Keele University Sports Centre, Newcastle Upon-Lyme.
Both teams trades points early on in a close opening set. Brilliant outside attacks by Yassir Sliti along with sharp middle attacks from Alex Bialokoz put the score to 16-20 to the away team. Intelligent time outs helped to refocus Newcastle, yet Malory held firm to take the set 25 points to 23.
Eagles fell behind early in the second set, with Newcastle the quickest out of the blocks. Both inspired saves from libero Stephen Fee and inspired words from captain Richard Dobell in the mid set out, helped Malory back into the game, eventually taking the set 25-23.
A much assured third set from The Eagles, assisted by Marc Richardson's offensive power lead to them taking the set 25-21, and the match too.
