Gino Rea had another very successful weekend on his Ten Kate Honda at Magny Cours, claiming a second-placed finish to lead the Superstock 600 Championship going into the final race at Portimao.
The teenager started second on the grid but slipped back to eighth after a few small mistakes.
However, he fought back through the pack, setting the fastest lap on the way, and was invloved in a last-lap scrap for victory before being edged into second by 0.2 seconds.
The podium place leaves Rea top of the championship table, three points ahead of Italian Danilo Petrucci.
Rea said: "Magny Cours went pretty much to plan and we have come out leading the WSB Superstock 600 championship.
“The start of my race didn’t go how I wanted it to, I was a little eager and pushed a bit too much in the first couple of laps, I ended up going backwards to eighth.
“I regrouped and settled down but was having small problems with my clutch. I made my way back up to the front and finished the race in second.
“It was perfect for my championship, I lead by three points and the final race is Portimao. Last year, I won there, so I hope I can have the same success and clinch the championship title this year!"
