Cheam’s Ross Fisher admits he still has plenty of work to do as he looks to secure his place at the top of the Race To Dubai standings.
Fisher failed to improve on his sixth spot in the rankings after missing the cut at last week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews.
But despite their being just seven ranking tournaments left to play in before the Dubai showcase in November, Fisher is refusing to panic.
He said: “I have a week break now and there are a few things I want to work on.
“The next event for me will be the Portugal Open and I really want an improvement there.
“I really want to make my move towards the top of the Race to Dubai standings and that will be a great opportunity for me.”
The 29-year-old suffered a dismal time in Scotland, missing only his second cut of the season despite a late surge.
And Fisher was annoyed with his efforts on a course where he had made the play-offs last year.
He added: “I had to scramble through the first round - I made a few good putts to make par but it wasn’t a great start.
“Things improved but I just couldn’t get it going.
“I was striking the ball better, and hitting more greens, but I wasn’t sinking the putts.
“It is an area I have worked very hard on this season but it didn’t come together.
“It was a disappointing week for many reasons, as I really fancied myself to do well.
“I did really well there last year and I was hoping to make a surge this time around.
“But it wasn’t to be and I just have to move on.”
