Croydon Amphibians U14s won the Red Cross Water Polo Championship in Basingstoke at the weekend.

The team played last years winners Basingstoke and then Salisbury in the preliminary rounds winning 13 – 4 and 15 – 0 respectively with a clean sheet from goal keeper Alfie Piper and a confident hat trick from team Junior Matthew Helps the highlights.

In the final they faced Christchurch Seagulls in the final who had had an equally impressive route to earn the right to compete against Croydon .

Croydon went behind early in the game but through the hard work of Josh Capon, Anthony Desousza and the strength of four goal Josh Hampson they managed to go a goal ahead with three minutes left to play.

Then a wonder goal by Matthew Brooks ,a further by Kevin Girard and a magnificent defensive performance by Tor Wheeler sealing a compelling and skilful contest with Amphibians winning 8-5.
