Peter Chambers won the individual hours for Croydon Harrier’s U15s at the Surrey Junior Cross country relays in Guildford on Saturday when he ran the fastest lap.
The Trinity boy ran the club's A team's first lap in seven minutes, 27 seconds, before handing over to fellow London Mini Marathon winner Elliott Veheary, who held on well in first in eight minutes.
He passed the baton to team reserve Fernwood Goddard of on the final leg. To his great credit the novice runner followed instruction to the letter and brought team home in eighth.
The U13s A team were also not at full strength and suffered a setback at the start when Stirling Gibbons fell, giving B team runner Robert Cleghorn the chance to reveal his talent, running round excitingly in nine minute, three seconds.
Second B runner Luke Baker gave his A colleague William Holmes a challenge which brought out his best and saw A anchorman Joshua Haasz off chasing the medals.
A fine run of eight minutes, 15 seconds took Haasz past six rivals in to ninth place.
Croydon’s U17s opened with a solid seven minute, 39 second lap from Mark Plackett which proved the team’s fastest.
Jack Thorogood held on well in 7.59 and Scott Fanner brought the team home seventh of 27 in 7.54.
