Therfield schoolgirl Megan Amis has helped a six-strong Surrey girls’ team to win golf’s Alresford Cup.
Leatherhead-based Megan, 12, was the final Surrey player on the course and came in with a terrific 38 points to ensure they took the title with a winning total of 147.
Last year’s winners Essex were second on 144 with Hampshire third on 143.
The top four scores from each county go forward, with scores five and six being held back in case of ties. Megan was joined on 38 points by Abby Audsley and Danielle Ferry, while captain Fiona Stannard managed 33 points. The other members of the team were Charlotte Fryer and Daisey Macve.
The cup is designed to provide a competition for a mixed range of handicaps with six counties represented - Hertfordshire, Kent and Sussex are the others.
It has been a great year for Megan, a member of Tyrrells Wood Golf Club. She also won the Rothschild Trophy, part of the Surrey girls’ summer meeting at Walton Heath Golf Club earlier this year, with a stableford score of 31 points.
She regularly hits drives of more than 200 yards off the tee, but plans to concentrate on her chipping and putting over the winter.
