Surrey Downs Golf Club in Kingswood is launching a new academy aimed at creating the Ryder Cup stars of the future.

Talented U16s will get specialist tuition on how to make it as a professional at the elite junior academy.

The 10-week course, which will run from November, is open to any young golfers with a single-figure handicap.

The course features video swing analysis, techniques and tips, while also educating the students on the benefits of a stable diet and positive mindset.

Leading golf ball manufacture Titleist will provide high-tech demonstrations along with club fitting professionals Tour 59.

The academy will be run by course director Stephen Blacklee, former director of the David Leadbetter European Headquarters.

Blacklee, who works with European Tour and Ladies European Tour stars, wants other promising youngsters to continue their progress instead of giving up the game.

He said: “We have found that there is a void for juniors who have reached a good standard but the then found it difficult to progress to the next level.

“We want to make the transition from talented prospect to fulfilling potential as smooth and as progressive as possible through coaching of the highest quality.”

Blacklee will be assisted by Simon Bates, who gained his full PGA membership status in 2005.

He added: “With the standard of the game increasing at all levels, there has never been a better time for players, who already have a solid technique, to improve their game.

“It is all about creating a good environment and passing on the correct advice. The beauty of the Elite Junior Academy is we are able to cover every aspect of what’s required to be a top-class golfer.”

The cost of the complete course is £249 for 10 one-hour lessons. Call Simon or Steve on 01737 839155 or visit www.surreydownsgc.co.uk
