Twickenham tennis player Oliver Golding helped Britain to beat fourth seeds Uzbekistan 3-0 in the Junior Davis Cup in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, last week.
Golding romped to a 6-0 7-6 success over Sergey Shiplov in his singles match last week to help his team to an impressive win. Team-mate George Morgan beat Abduvoris Saitmukhamedov 6-4, 6-3, before teaming up with Andrew Bettles to defeat Jakhongir Jalalov and Shiplov 6-4 6-5.
The trio, who have all been selected as AEGON FutureStars by the LTA, have relished the challenge. “It’s an honour to play for my country in such an important event as the Junior Davis Cup,” said Golding, who recently celebrated his 16th birthday.
“Some of the best players in the world are competing and it gives us a chance to test ourselves against them and see exactly where we’re at. It’s a fantastic experience for all of us and what’s really great about it is we get to play as a team, which very rarely happens.
“It certainly makes you want to keep working hard and, hopefully, one day we’ll be representing Great Britain at senior level.”
