Wimbledon Common became something like Wimbledon Lido as a reduced field of 80 runners took part in Saturday morning’s 150th running of the weekly Wimbledon Common 5km parkrun, writes Charles Lawrie.

Two unattached runners headed the field with teenager John Paton, making his 21st appearance, winning for the first time in 18 minutes 26 seconds.

He finished six seconds ahead of Joe Thompson, with Thames Hare & Hounds’ over-45 veteran Ian Higgins third (18:50), just holding off his great rival and team-mate Richard Pitt (18:50).

Zoe Phillips (21:07) was women’s winner for the ninth time ahead of Helen St John (23:46) and Rosalind Harrison (24:14).
