Sutton schoolboy Jacob Paul showed outstanding form when he finished runner-up in boys U16 event in the schools international indoor pentathlon competition in Glasgow's Kelvin Hall on Saturday, helping England to a comfortable team win.
Paul, 14, a pupil at Wilson's School, smashed his personal best pentathlon school with a total of 3189 points, improving on his 3127 achieved in winning the English schools title at Bedford in September.
He also posted three personal bests in the five individual disciplines.
The youngster, who lives in Banstead and belongs to Epsom & Ewell, made a flying start as he swept over the 60m hurdles in 8.68 seconds, the second best time of the 16 competitors and a lifetime best for Paul who previously clocked 8.99 in winning the South of England U15 title at Lee Valley back in January.
He chalked up another lifetime best in the long jump where he leapt 5.94m and 11 centimetre improvement on his performance on his way to winning the English schools pentathlon title at Bedford.
He was somewhat below his best in the 200m where he was eighth in 25.05and slipped to third place overall but bounced back with a fine best-ever shot putt effort of 12.17m.
