Striders of Croydon produced some good performances at the annual Pirie 10-mile cross-country race, promoted by South London Harriers, writes Alan Dolton.
Striders’ first man home was Richard Lee-Smith who placed 12th of the 95 finishers, covering the muddy and undulating course in 63 minutes 40 seconds. Club secretary Chris Morton also ran well for 26th, recording exactly 68 minutes.
Striders’ Suzy Yates had a very good run to be the fourth woman to finish, placing 53rd overall in 76 minutes 09. Club colleague Serena Stracey, in her last race before her forthcoming wedding, was 68th (81.40) with Alice Ewen not far behind in 72nd (82.23).
In the Roundshaw Downs Park Run on the same morning, Striders were led home by Mick Turner who placed sixth of the 54 finishers in 19 minutes 19, one place and nine seconds ahead of club colleague Barry White. Alan Dolton was second in the over-50 category and 16th overall, recording 22 minutes 04.
