Chloe Bean cemented her position as one of the country’s top breaststroke swimmers with an outstanding performance at last weekend’s Burns Open Meet at Ponds Forge International Pool, Sheffield.
The event was designated a preparation meet for the Commonwealth Games and attracted many of Britain’s international swimmers, including double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington and Olympic bronze medallist Jo Jackson.
Bean was the fastest 14-year-old in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events and the second fastest in the 50m breaststroke, where she knocked almost two seconds off her personal best time to finish in 34.39 seconds out of a field of 22 swimmers.
She collected the silver medal in the combined 14-15 year old 200m breaststroke (2:36.81) but had to settle for fourth 100m breaststroke.
All three times were qualifying times for the British championships in March.
Team-mate David Andrews, 16, finished fifth in the 15-16 years 50m breaststroke, clocking a personal best time 31.74.
He also put in a terrific performance in the 100m breaststroke (1:10.83) against a strong field of 26 swimmers.
Chris Green, 12, made an impressive debut performance in the 50m breaststroke, notching up an excellent PB of 36.81, as did Suzanne Norman, 12, in the 100m backstroke with a very fast time of 1:12.79.
Tom Matthews, 14, set a 50m freestyle personal best 26.18.
Head coach David Vine said: “I am very proud of my swimmers’ performances at this high-level meet.
“They were up against very stiff competition from all around the country, which proved to be an invaluable experience.”
