More than 60 Herne Hill Harriers took part in the South of England Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill Fields on Saturday.

Best performance came from the U13 boys, who finished as fourth best team, one of Herne Hill’s best ever team positions in the younger age groups at the event.

They were led by Merhawi Tesfaldet in fifth, with Lascelles Hussey 14th, Aaron Clark 84th and Paul Burgess 91st of 212 finishers.

Herne Hill Harriers’ contingent of 30 senior men equalled last year’s eighth team position and they also took the Odling Seem Cup as the first Surrey club to close in a 12th man. Their highest placed finisher was Alan Barnes in 38th out of 806 finishers.

Karen Ellison finished a superb 10th in the senior women’s race and was backed up by Suzanne Swaine in 87th, Helen Sharp 91st and Virginia Grant 107th.

U15 boys’ race (18th team finish): 48 Michael Brown, 98 James Allen, 99 Alex Wheeldon, 195 Tim Leek.

U20 women’s race: 26 Julia Wedmore.

U17 women’s race: 23 Katie Snowdon, 25 Hannah Edwards.

U15 girls’ race: (20th team finish): 88 Billie Barbour, 102 Ashleigh Campbell, 128 Maisie Hilliare, 141 Francesca Meade.

U13 girls’ race (24th team finish): 68 Victoria Picken, 100 Jade Stroud, 162 Clemmie Hilliare, 206 Olivia Lamont.
