Brian McDermott is relishing the prospect of pitting his wits against the best the NRL has to offer when Harlequins RL tangle with Melbourne Storm this weekend.
The friendly is scheduled as a way for the Australian champions to tune up ahead of their World Club Challenge showdown with Leeds Rhinos the following weekend.
But McDermott insists there will be plenty for the Londoners to get their teeth into as well.
He said: “We are give the game a real go.
“It will be an opportunity for us to have a crack at a few things without the pressure of two Super League points being at stake.
“We will experiment and we will throw the ball around.
“Last year against Manly we got stuck in and surprised a few people and that gave us a lot of momentum to take into the league campaign.”
McDermott has vowed to play a full-strength line-up for the Sunday game.
And the Quins coach reckons the contest is too good an opportunity to turn down.
He added: “It is an exciting prospect, not just for the players but the fans as well.
“How often do you get the chance to test yourself against the best players in the world?
“Hopefully there will be a big crowd down there and we can give people a day to remember.”
McDermott will no doubt hope Will Sharp will continue his form after the winger bagged a match-winning hat-trick in last weekend’s defeat of the Catalan Dragons.
The coach added: “Will is a bit of a freak really.
“He is so much more than just a fast bloke.
“He is a bit like a cat really - you can throw him up in the air and he always seems to land on his feet.”
