Twickenham CC head coach Martin Fryer believes securing the services of Middlesex youngster Dan Housego is a clear indication of the club’s progress as it prepares for life in the Middlesex County League Premier Division.

Skipper Carlos Nunes’ men secured promotion to the top flight with a dramatic last day draw with Southgate on the Green in September and are out to consolidate at the highest level of cricket in the county.

Neighbours Richmond were relegated from the Premier Division last summer without winning a game having been promoted the previous season and Fryer is mindful of the difficult task they face to simply survive.

Batsman Housego, 21, has a highest score of 36 from ten first class innings since making his Middlesex debut in 2008 and is good friends with Teddington’s Middlesex star Dawid Malan.

North Middlesex’s Maaz Hafeji, Southgate’s Fawad Mullahzadah and Western Australian batsman/wicketkeeper Tom Meredith will also bolster the ranks this season as Ts look to fill the void left by the departures of all-rounders Justin Scriven and Jimmy Munting.

Housego remains under contract at Lord’s and it is the capture of his signature that Fryer believes means Twickenham’s stock is clearly rising.

“Twickenham enjoys a great reputation within amateur cricket and we have actually turned down a couple of international players,” he said.

“We have already managed to recruit some potential match winners for 2010. Maaz, a front line bowler, will be a valuable asset to the club, while Fawad’s fast inswingers and pugnacious batting turned many heads.

“Dan will be joining our playing and coaching staff and is without doubt a reflection of last year’s success, and the high esteem in which the club is held.”
