Harry Aikines-Aryeetey could not hide his disappointment of failing to finish as top British performer during the final of Aviva Grand Prix men’s 60m event in Birmingham last Saturday, writes Ziad Chaudry.
While just 0.1 seconds separated the leading Brits, the 21-year-old Sutton & District runner was well outside his season’s best 6.55 seconds set in the previous weekend’s Aviva UK Championships and World trials.
On this occasion, he finished fifth in 6.62, behind domestic rivals Nick Smith and comeback kid Mark Lewis-Frances.
“To be honest I don’t know what really happened in the final,” said Aikines-Aryeetey.
“I just have to take it as it is and move on.
“It is never good to be beaten by your fellow Brits.
“But I did what my coach and selectors asked me to do. I peaked at the championships and hopefully I will be given the opportunity to peak at the world indoors.”
