Ranelagh Harriers crushed old rivals Blackheath & Bromley Harriers at a mob match in Richmond Park on Saturday.
With 91 Ranelagh runners lining up for the 7.5-mile race, the 35 Blackheath runners were dramatically outnumbered and it is no surprise that the home side ran out clear winners.
Their blue shirts were immediately at the front and Phil Killingley broke clear to win in 43 minutes, 40 seconds, securing the FB Thompson medal for the individual winner.
Pete Haarer was second (45.23), with Roy Smith in third the only Blackheath runner in the first 15 places.
Steve Whitehead, Howard Gleave (first over-50), Marc Snaith, Trevor Maguire, Ed Barker, Martin Halvey and Niall O’Connor completed the top 10.
Blackheath’s Jennie Butler (53.43) was first woman, outstprinting Ranelagh’s Sarah Smith (53.44), who is steadily returning to top fitness after the birth of her second child. Ranelagh’s Rachael Holmes (55.17) was third woman.
Among the 10 over-60s in the course were Patricia Hewlett, who clocked 1:36.25 at the age of 75.
