Croydon Harriers’ Elliot Safo dominated the U17 long jump to take gold at the England Indoor Age Group Championships in Birmingham on Sunday.
The Trinity boy went top of the UK rankings with a personal best 7.00m jump, improving on his last best by 21cm and winning by 11cm.
Twinelle Hopeson continued her good form as she won a brace of silver medals in the U20 sprints with two personal bests.
She improved on her career best time in the 60m in the heats, semi-final and final, where she clocked 7.48 seconds to finish 0.01 seconds behind the gold medallist.
In the 200m, she crossed the line in 24.39 seconds, bettering her best previous time of 24.52 seconds set in 2007 and taking her second in the UK rankings this year.
Cameron Smith was fifth in the U17 60m in 7.12 seconds, having clocked 7.11 seconds in his semi-final.
U15 South of England champion Femi Agbetoyin, who attends Archbishop Lanfranc, took bronze in the 800m in a personal best 2.11:58 minutes.
Harriers sprinters and field athletes are in indoor action in Sutton on Saturday, while on Sunday the U11, U13 and U15 cross country runners are in Downs League action.
Meanwhile, Peter Chambers finished 35th out of 387 runners in the U15 race at Saturday’s English National Cross Country Championships in Roundhay Park, Leeds. Patrick Lucas was 137th.
In the U17 race, Mark Plackett was 100th and Ben Savill 231st out of 350 runners.
In the senior men’s 12km race, contested by 1,428 runners, Matt Kiernan was 1,159th, Norman Hemming 1,285th and Darren Warren 1,372nd.
