Battersea-born Imogen Ainsworth was edged out for gold in a thrilling 3,000m final on Sunday at the 2010 BUCS Championships at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield, writes Andrew Magee.
Loughborough’s Kirsty Milner beat the 21-year-old Bristol University student by 15 hundredths of a second.
Ainsworth was delighted to claim silver, having finished fourth last year, though she felt she could have taken gold in an incredibly tight race.
“It was really good. I’m a bit annoyed because I almost caught her but not quite,” she said.
“I love competing for my uni. It’s a really good atmosphere here and it’s really exciting watching all the other high standard races.”
