Leatherhead Swimming Club claimed three gold, five silver and seven bronze medals in the sprint events on the third weekend of the Surrey Championships at Crystal Palace on Saturday, writes Anita Bean.

Daniel Malamud, 13, took gold in the 50m butterley (29.64 seconds), silver in the 50m backstroke (32.68) and bronze in the 50m freestyle (27.98).

Chris Green, 12, claimed gold in the 50m breaststroke (35.12) and silver in the 50m freestyle (29.37).

Chloe Bean, 14, claimed the 50m breaststroke (34.32).

Other silver medals: Suzanne Norman, 12 (50m backstroke, 50m butterfly). Sarah Matthews, 10 (50m butterfly). Liam Mellet, David Andrews, Simon Churchman & Luke Shields (over-16s 4x100m medley relay).

Other bronze medals: Ben Staig, 10 (50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke), James Simms, 11 (50m breaststroke), James Wilks, 10 (50m butterfly), David Andrews, 16 (50m breaststroke), Nicky Cooke, 14 (50m backstroke). Suzanne Norman, Lucy Bean, Rachel Dunne & Gabby Orlich (12-13 years 4x50m medley relay). Chloe Bean, Nicky Cooke, Becky Cooke & Lauren Parsons (girls’ open 4x200m freestyle relay).

Head coach David Vine said: “This was another great weekend and we hope to finish on a high on the final weekend on March 27 and 28.”
