Trampolinist Emma Britton is among 21 young athletes from Merton to have been awarded financial and training grants for 2010 from sporting charity the GLL Sport Foundation.
In January, Britton had surgery to correct ligament damage in her leg, forfeiting her place in the European Gymnastics Trials. More than 800 young athletes from across London and the South East have been supported worth over £400,000 from the Foundation, making it one of the largest independent athlete talent support schemes in the region.
The successful applicants were announced at a VIP event at the BT Tower on March 16.
Each sponsored athlete will benefit from funding of up to £1,250 to be spent on training, travel and equipment during the next 12 months.
Among the recipients in Merton is trampolinist Emma Britton.
She said: “My aim is to secure a European place, qualify for 2010 National Finals and qualify for the World Age Games in November 2010 and reach the finals. I would love to qualify for Youth Olympics in Singapore August 2010 - to achieve this I need to qualify for the Europeans and place 1-3!”.
