A four-goal blitz before half time saw Sanderstead's first team cruise to an easy win over Wanderers IVs on Saturday.
Despite conceding twice after the interval, the hosts were in a comfortable position throughout, eventually running out 6-2 victors.
With two Richard Bruce goals, a Martyn Avery set piece and a neat deflection from John Devaney, the Old Saw Mill outfit quickly established a dominant lead.
Devaney also went close with a fierce aerial effort, which was well saved, while Alex Vernon used his skills to earn his side a number of valuable free hits, including the short corner which led to Avery's goal.
The second half brought a less convincing performance from the champions, who occasionally let slip their positional discipline and allowed Wanderers to exploit the space in midfield.
From here, the visitors scored first in open play, passing the ball around the Sanderstead circle and beating goalie Cameron Skinner from close range, then got a second when a deflected penalty corner strike looped over a prone Skinner.
Fortunately for the Millers, more goals came at the other end.
Denzil Dolley rounded off a slick team move down the right wing to notch Sanderstead's fifth, and he doubled his tally with a diving reverse shot minutes from the end.
Impressive stops from the Wanderers' goalkeeper kept the score respectable, but he was nowhere near Chris O'Hagan's effort which struck the upright following Devaney's assist.
Sanderstead's IIs are still reliant on the outcome of other fixtures in their chase for promotion from Surrey Open League One, but back-to-back victories over the weekend have kept alive their faint hope of success.
An impressive 5-1 win last Saturday over Reigate Priory IVs was followed by an equally one-sided display on Sunday, when five unanswered goals brought Sanderstead another three points.
Sanderstead hockey club is inviting new members to join them as the men’s four sides go from strength to strength.
The first team is already preparing for their campaign in Surrey Division One and there are opportunities for players of all abilities within the club.
Players interested in joining can visit sandersteadhockey.com or contact Martyn Avery on 07968 973305 for more information.
The next first XI fixture is against Purley Walcountians IIs on Saturday, March 27. Push back will be at 1pm at Croydon High School. This will be the final league fixture of the season for the first team.
