Kenley Hockey Club’s men gained revenge for a controversial defeat by Purley Walcountians in December with a 6-2 away win on Saturday.

Early on, Kenley’s stopper had to be on hand to deflect an aerial effort, while Sean Fayle and Ollie Maurice were causing trouble at the other end.

Purley took the lead after 15 minutes from a penalty flick after a shot was stopped on the line by a defender’s body.

But, direct from the kick off, a swift move by finished off by Kenley’s Kris Blamiers for his first goal of the season.

Kenley took momentum from the goal, although Andy Carpenter was show a green card for a rather innocuous challenge.

Their pressure paid off five minutes before half-time when Ollie Maurice completed a great team move to give Kenley a 2-1 half-time lead.

Purley looked to edge their way back into the game in the second half and, as the game became increasingly physical and niggly, Kenley grabbed the key fourth goal of the game from a short corner routine, Ricky Bushell sweeping home from close range.

Then Rufus Veness got a yellow card for what the umpire adjudged a delibertate back-stick, but Purley wasted the resulting penalty corner.

Kenley then dug in deep to keep out Purley's attacks whilst a man down.

Kenley keeper & captain Ben Gane was then shown a green card for protesting at the award of a dubious penalty corner.

Veness returned from his yellow card with a point to prove and scored a fabulous solo goal to make it 4-1.

A Purley player was then yellow-carded after catching Paul Bateman in the face with his stuck.

Maurice made it 5-1 and, although Purley pulled another goal back, Maurice then wrapped things up by completing his hat-trick.
