Jerome Dunne, making his second appearance in the Wimbledon Common 5km parkrun, claimed his first victory in 18 minutes, 31 seconds on Saturday morning, writes Peter Collins.

He knocked 23 seconds off his previous time to beat Thames Hare & Hounds’ over-45 veteran Ian Higgins by 11 seconds, with Serpentine’s Andrew Davies just a second further back in third.

Anna Ballance, of Wimbledon Windmilers, was women’s winner (21:22) ahead of unattached Evelyn Taylor (22:11) and over-45 veteran Geraldine Hellings (22:12).

The top age-grader this week was Wimbledon Windmiler Terry Eakin (VM60-64), whose 19:18, good enough for seventh place, gave him a grade of 83.07 per cent.

Some excellent new PBs were established just before the rain fell again.

In her second run, Annie Drynan took nearly three minutes off her best with 34:10. Daniel Lawes' 32:57 was an improvement of 109 seconds.

Young James John Hambly ran a nice round 100 seconds faster than ever before, Jack Slater took 99 seconds off his previous PB and Sam Henderson's 24:43 was 94 seconds up on his best.

In reducing her fastest time by eight seconds, to 32:17, Rebecca Anthony has now come down by more than eight minutes since her first parkrun in June last year. And Rosalie Le Cordeur posted a 13-second improvement almost a year to the day since her last.

In his 79th parkrun, Charles Hampden-Smith brought his best time down by three seconds, to 20:27 for the second successive week, having waited eight months to post an improvement.

In the points competition Andrew K Davies has a lead of 56 points over second placed Ian Higgins. Annie Tosh, who unusually did not run a PB this time, leads Jayne Pooley by 66 in the ladies competition.

This week there were 22 first-timers.
