Phil Wicks made an impressive start to 2010 by helping Belgrave Harriers to take silver medals in Sunday’s South of England 12-stage road relay at Milton Keynes.

Wicks clocked his club’s fastest short stage time, and the second best of the day, in moving through from third to second on the 10th stage. He clocked 16:06.

Daniel Mulhare (24:05) and cross country international Nick Goolab (16:29) kept Belgrave in second place, almost four minutes ahead of Aldershot, but more than five minutes adrift of winners Newham & Essex Beagles.

Veteran Roger Alsop (17:31) and first leg runner Chris Busaileh (24:44) were the fastest short and long stage runners for Herne Hill, who finished sixth.

Thames’ fastest long stage runners were James McMullan and Phil Sly, who both clocked 24:54.

First-leg runner Hugh Torry (25:55) and anchor-leg runner Caspar Prestridge (18:28) were fastest for Serpentine, who finished 11th.

First-leg runner Mariah McConnaughey (19:40) was fastest for the Serpentine team which just missed out on team medals in the South of England women’s six-stage road relay at Milton Keynes. Their team was fourth (1:22).
