Hampton’s Mike Skinner is aiming for a top-50 finish at the IAAF World Championship in Bydgosziz, Poland, on Sunday.

Skinner, who clinched his place in the British senior men’s team by finishing fourth in the trials in Birmingham a fortnight ago, came 62nd on his debut in Mombasa in 2007, but slipped to 66th in Edinburgh in 2008 and 87th in Amman, Jordan, last year.

“I am running as well as ever at the moment and believe the heavier conditions in Poland will suit me,” said 30-year-old Skinner, the competition manager for the Richmond and Kingston schools sports partnership.

After the World Championships, he heads to Indiana, USA, with Twickenham international Scott Overall for a month’s training and racing ahead of the summer track and field season.

Overall is recovering from a calf injury sustained racing in the 3,000m at the World Indoor Championships in Doha.
