South London Storm picked up their second pre-season win with a battling 22-8 victory at Leicester Phoenix.
A tough encounter that at times threatened to spill over saw the Londoners ease away in the second half having trailed 8-6 at half time.
Storm looked the more threatening from the start but a number of unenforced errors meant they were unable to trouble the try line.
The home team took advantage of a missed tackle 40m out to open the scoring with a well worked try for their left winger.
The visitors replied almost immediately as after a spell of sustained pressure on the Leicester line, Luke Bonnor laid the platform for Adam Tran to cross to level the scores, Matty O'Shea padding the conversion.
A second Phoenix try took the hosts into an 8-6 half-time lead, but Storm found some form at the start of the second half.
First, Shae Mutu finished off a flowing backline move to score. Then, Matt Stringer broke from halfway for a great solo try, Lee McCarthy’s conversion making it 16-8.
Returning centre Pete Maddigan sealed victory 16 minutes from time with a smart try, with O’Shea again converting.
