Twickenham biker Simon Low is hoping his team can iron out some teething troubles to put him in good shape for the opening British Superbikes 125GP race of the season on Monday.
The 23-year-old starts his first full season in the competition this year for Team shop4bikers/Dutch-2-UK Racing at Brands Hatch and was testing in Spain earlier this month.
Former Orleans Park School student Low, who has only been riding for five years, trialed for the Dutch outfit last season and will be on one of only four Honda GP race bikes in the world to run a disc valve system.
The power behind the 125cc bike has been a problem so far, but Low is confident that will be solved come raceday as he bids for a top ten finish from the off.
“Testing has gone okay, but there is a lot more to improve on the bike. It doesn’t feel like the bike I rode last year yet,” he said.
“We’ve had problems with the power because they have changed the ignition system, and there are issues with the rear suspension.
“We need to find a different suspension unit, but we’ve got an extra day of practise at the first race to iron out all of these problems and I’m confident the bike will be ready.
“I’m aiming to be in the points from the off. By the end of the year, I expect to be consistently placed in the top 10 or higher.”
