The South Club's Women's Hockey League reached its dramatic conclusion as Surbiton Ladies shrugged of their recent poor form to beat Oxford Hawks 4-0 and lift the Championship trophy.
Runners-up Reading 1A, who finished just one point behind the eventual winners, ended the season with an emphatic 8-0 win over Harrow but it wasn't enough to displace Surbiton at the top of the table.
Despite experiencing a severe downturn over the past few weeks, Surbiton took a deserved lead five minutes before half time when Kelly Taylor found the net.
With the visitors rarely threatening, Surbiton sealed the win and the title with three goals in a 10 minute spell during the second half. Helen Grant converted their third penalty corner in the 54th minute before Sian Craze and Hannah Oaks completed the rout with six minutes remaining.
Surbiton must now wait for a series of England Hockey League promotion and relegation play-offs to be completed before they discover which league they will be competing in next season.
Meanwhile, Surbiton Men's first team must overcome East Grinstead in the EHL play-off on 25 April if they are to emulate the success of the women's team following their 7-3 win over Bowdon on Sunday.
Tim Pinnock opened the scoring in the third minute before Alberto Esteban Velazquez doubled the lead six minutes later. Mike Houlihan touched in a Rob Moore shot in the 17th minute and Ben Hawes compounded Surbiton's dominance with a reverse stick shot nine minutes before the break.
Seven minutes into the second half, a defensive error allowed Bowden's Chris Borrett to pull a goal back but Surbiton extended their lead with two quick-fire goals scored by Hawes and Richard Alexander respectively.
David Egerton pulled another goal back Bowden in the 61st minute before Tindall ensured that Surbiton had the last laugh when he found the net three minutes later.
Saxon Hill's late strike was no more than a consolation goal and Surbiton will be brimming with confidence after this performance as they prepare for their final promotion push.
