HERE WE GO: The track and field season starts in earnest this weekend with the opening Southern Men’s League matches tomorrow (Saturday) and McCain’s Young Athletes League first round matches on Sunday. Kingston & Polytechnic and Hercules Wimbledon host a joint match at Kingsmeadow tomorrow (1pm). City of Portsmouth, Harrow and Thames Valley Harriers the visiting teams for Hercules Wimbledon’s Division One match. Kingston face a Division Three South match against Crawley, Epsom & Ewell and a combined Lewes and Haywards Heath team.

LEAGUE FIXTURES: Belgrave and Herne Hill are joint hosts for matches at Battersea Park, (1pm). Herne Hill are in a Division Two match with Hillingdon, London Heathside, Blackheath & Bromley and Guildford the visitors. Belgrave come up against Peterborough, Dacorum & Tring and Serpentine B in Division Three North. St Mary’s Richmond have a Division Two match at Reading, Walton visit Cambridge and Serpentine are in action at Hemel Hempstead. Sutton are travelling to Watford for a Division Four West match.

YOUNG GUNS: Kingston & Polytechnic and St Mary’s Richmond have a McCains Young Athletes League match at Lee Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday. Herne Hill travel even further east to Ashton Playing Fields, Woodford, for their opening contest. Sutton & District host a match at Sutton Arena, with Hercules Wimbledon and Walton among the visitors.

LEAGUE OPENER: The first Rosenheim League West Division match of the season is held at Kingsmeadow next Wednesday (6.45pm). Organised by Kingston & Polytechnic, the match also features Epsom & Ewell Harriers, St Mary’s Richmond, Walton AC and British Airways.

FAST RACING: Sutton Runners stage their annual 10km road race on Sunday (10.30am). Starting from Church Road, Wallington, a fast, flat, three-lap course passes through Beddington Park. The race is the opening event in this summer’s Surrey Road League. Every finisher will receive a memento and entries, costing £10, will be taken on the day.
