Hercules Wimbledon's Elliott Laville has been selected to represent Britain in next month's World Biathlon championships in Dubai. Laville, who is just 12, qualified for selection after finishing fifth in the British Championships at Salford Quays completing two 500m runs and a 50m swim in 5 miutes 32.90 seconds.

Laville is a regular competitor in the Wimbledon Common parkrun. He has competed in it 15 times this year. The last time he took part was in July. He clocked his fastest time of 20:55 in March. He also finished second in the South London Swimming Club's Children's Duathlon at Tooting Bec Lido in 11:10.

At the other end of the age scale, one of Hercules Wimbledon's golden oldies, Pete Giles, lifted his fourthg British Masters title this year when he took the over 65 category in the British Masters 10km road running championship at Goodrich, near Wolverhampton. He clocked a Hercules Wimbledon club record of 39:52. His 10km time in the Midlands broke the Hercules Wimbledon men's over 65 club record of 41:01 set by John Thomas in Eastleigh, Hampshire, in March 2006.

His title winning run began in March when he took the indoor 3000m title at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, North London, in 10:49.04. The following month he took the marathon title in Scotland in 3:18:22 and then won the 1500m title in Cardiff in July in 5:11.05. He also took the silver medal in the 5000m in 18:56.18. Giles will be going for his fourth British Masters title, over 10 miles, in Bristol next month.

Two other Hercules Wimbledon's older members have also shown good form. Anna Garnier broke the Hercules Wimbledon women's veteran over 55 record in winning her age category in the Veterans Athletic Club's 10000m track championships at Battersea Park. She clocked 42:31.3, the fastest time recorded this year by a woman over 55 veteran. It also places her ninth in the UK all-time list for her age category.

Peter Lee and Hugh Saxby also picked up medals in the Veterans AC championships. Lee was second in the over 40 category in 35:39.3 while Saxby also took silver in the men's over 55 category in 37:14.2, the third fastest 10000m time ever recorded by a Hercules Wimbledon over 50 runner. Dennis Williams (36:23.4 in 1995) and Martin Miller (36:51.3) in 1997 are the only Hercules Wimbledon runners to have posted faster times. Saxby's time is also the third fastest recorded by a British over 55-year-old this year.

Hercules Wimbledon runners have also shown good form in winning races on the road. Rory McMahon beat almost 200 runners to take the Worcester half-marathon in the Midlands in 1:26:38. It was his first race over the distance. Nearer home at Thames Ditton, James Trapmore beat almost 300 runners to win the Harry Hawkes eight miles road race in 43:26.

In only her third race since she became the mum of a baby boy, Claire Grima returned to winning ways when she won the women's event in the Wimbledon Common parkrun on Saturday. Grima, 33, won in 19:57, exactly three minutes faster than she managed a month earlier. However, it was some way off her best time of 18:37 set in May 2009.

She was among 10 Hercules Wimbledon runners in the event. Darren Meredith was the top Hercules Wimbledon finisher taking second place 17:15. Pat Wright was fourth (17:40), Andrew Davies (sixth in 18:15), Jeremy Purnell (15th in 19:27), Frank Wood (18th in 19:53), Alison Purnell (66th in 22:50), Annemarie Seymour (80th in 23:41); Charles Lawrie (83rd in 23:44) and Mark Bohan (90th in 24:07). Almost 200 runners took part.

Hercules Wimbledon sprinter David Pratt ended his summer track programme with a double success in the Tom Lintern Medal Meeting at Crawley. He won his 100 and 200m races in 11.23 and 22.72.
