Wandsworth fencer Mary Cohen says she is confident about her chances at Commonwealth Championships in Australia next week.
The 23-year-old England women’s captain jets off to Melbourne on Saturday on the back of some disappointing warm up results in recent weeks.
She finished seventh at the Bristol Open on Sunday - where she was defending her title - having come fifth at the Essex Open a fortnight earlier.
The England team have targeted a medal down under and medical student Cohen believes she can put her individual results behind her and deliver on the day.
“The two warm-up competitions were not great results, but I have had good fights and training has gone really well,” he said.
“I’m feeling positive about the Commonwealths having spoken to the girls about the team event, I am looking forward to being captain.”
Cohen will be able to tap into some expert advice while she is out there as her 63-year-old father Richard - a three time fencing Olympian - is competing for the Northern Irish team.
