Walton Athletics Club’s Carla Letheby has broken the Surrey U17s women’s hammer record three times this summer.
Going into this season, the 16-year-old’s best was 35.06m but she threw 36.66m in a cup match at Kingsmeadow in July to beat the county best of 35.12m set by Epsom & Ewell’s Christina Bennett in 1994.
A huge increase to 38.23m in a Lily B match at Wimbledon Park was followed by 38.95m in winning a Southern Women’s League fixture at Ashford as she helped Walton to claim promotion as Division Two runners-up.
Letheby claimed a hat-trick of wins in Walton’s final match at Basingstoke in the discus (32.45m), hammer (36.48m) and javelin (30.59m).
Helen Channon also won three events, the 100m, B 200m and B triple jump while Susan McLoughlin won the B 100m and, along with Channon, was a member of the sprint relay-winning team.
Other winners: Nathalie Warren (3,000m, B 1,500m), Fiona Perry (B 3,000m), Debbie Singleton (B discus), Sinead O’Brien (B javelin).

St Mary’s Richmond missed out on promotion despite winning their final Division Two match at Harrow.
St Mary’s winners: Korane Idarousse (100m), Anna Richardson (B 100m), Kate Brook (400m, 400m hurdles), Rebecca Townsend (B 400m), Kate Brown (800m, triple jump), Sharon Dooley (B 1,500m and 3,000m), Lauren Major (3,000m), Jessica Reifer (pole vault, B 100m, 400m, triple jump), Lydia Tella (javelin), Jimenez Joseph (B javelin), 4x400m relay.
Kingston & Polytechnic finished fourth in the match, while Serpentine finished third and were relegated.
Kingston winners: Pippa Wingate (hammer), Rahannah Gillette-Vernon (javelin). Serpentine winner: Mary Egundebi (1,500m).
