Wallington wheelchair racer David Weir raced to a comfortable win in the wheelchair race in the Great North Run from Newcastle to South Shields on Sunday.
Weir admitted we went off a little too fast, particularly as he hadn’t warmed up properly in the rain but, using different tyres, he won by six seconds in 44 minutes, 49 seconds.
“I am delighted, particularly after the disappointment in the London Marathon,” said Weir.
“It is nice to get a win under my belf this year.”
He plans to compete at January’s New York Marathon before heading to the World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand.
St Mary’s finishers: 14 Gary Thornton 1:05.24, 31 Stuart Huntingdon 1:09.54, 40 Andrew Conway 1:11.18.
