Hampton schoolboy Zafar Ansari is determined to not let his golden summer to waste by making it as a professional cricketer.
The 18-year-old first team captain, who plays club cricket for Weybridge, scored a record six centuries and 1,011 runs during the school season, before landing an England U19 call-up to face Sri Lanka in August.
Ansari also made his Surrey first team debut in the Clydesdale Bank Pro 40 clash with Sussex in September taking a wicket with his first ball and batting alongside England star Kevin Pietersen.
“To go from playing on the first X1 cricket pitch at Hampton to playing in front of several thousand people at the Oval and Hove in the space of two months has been almost unbelievable,” Ansari said.
“Each experience has provided me with even greater motivation to make it as an international cricketer.”
Ansari, whose brother Akbar has been playing for Notts second XI, heads to Cambridge University this autumn to read geography. Akbar was captain at Cambridge last year.
