Predictably when it comes to distance running, U17 Croydon Harrier Peter Chambers usually shines and such was the case at the weekend in the South England Relay at Aldershot.
The Trinity schoolboy clocked the eighth fastest time among 174 runners, a performance even more creditable given it is his first year in the age group.
Training partner and fellow Trinity student Marc Plackett was in first class form too less than 30 seconds behind.
U15 Joshua Haasz, running for Whitgift in the Surrey Schools League, cruised to a comfortable third place, keeping some in hand for a school biathlon the following day.
Fast emerging Robert Spalding, representing John Fisher in the U13 race, battled well for runners up spot.
Next Saturday, the young Harriers will be looking for further success in the County Cross-Country Relays at Guildford.
The following Sunday, October 10, is the Lexus Croydon Charity 3K Fun Run while the senior runners will be contesting the Lexus Croydon Charity 10k, starting in LLoyd Park Avenue at 10.10am.
Entries are still being taken on line and subject to numbers will be possible on the day for an additional £1.
