Ambitious plans are being set in motion to transform a Croydon golf club into a top notch venue.
Foxhills, which already runs a health spa and golf club at Ottershaw near Chertsey, has just taken over Farleigh Court at Selsdon.
The family-run company managed for buck the trend of falling membership at its existing club with the launch of a £5m health spa and youth club.
Now it plans on investing £2m over the next 18 months at Farleigh. Work is under way to improve the course and this will be masterminded by its original architects, John Jacobs Assiciates who designed Wentworth’s Edinburgh course.
Foxhills MD, Marc Hayton, said: “We asked them to finish the job they started.”
David Whitaker, the former estate director of The Wisley, is overseeing the greenkeeping team which will be increased in size in January and will take delivery of a £550,000 fleet of greenkeeping equipment in January.
Another £700,000 will be spent on refurbishing the 16,000 sq ft clubhouse next year. This will be overseen by DesignLSM, fresh from their award-winning design of Galvin La Chapelle and the refurbishment of The Runnymede Hotel.
“Whilst Farleigh will be run separately to Foxhills it will be similar in two ways,” Marketing Manager, Jo Oates said, “Families and non golfers will be as welcome as members at Farleigh and Farleigh will be at the heart of the community.”
