Newham’s Abdi Madar set a new course record in winning Striders of Croydon’s five-mile Switchback cross country race on Sunday.
He knocked 13 seconds off the previous best set by Herne Hill’s Dave Robinson to clock 27 minutes, 21 seconds and finish ahead of Beckenham’s Jim Addison (28.29) and Striders’ Lee Flanagan (28.40).
Mike Cummings was fourth (28.57) followed by clubmates Vic Maughn and Rajdave Singh as Herne Hill took the team prize.
Striders’ second finisher was Richard Lee-Smith who ran well to place seventh (29.46).
First woman was Herne Hill’s Suzie Richards who equalled Dulwich Runners’ Meredith Pannett’s course record of 31.18 set in 2003.
Ola Balme of Dulwich was second (33.37), followed by Striders’ Steph Upton (35/03) and South London Harriers’ Pippa Major (35.12).
Herne Hill again took the team prize.
Striders’ Barry White was third of 91 runners in Saturday’s Roundshaw Downs parkrun, clocking 20:13.
Alan Dolton was fourth and first over-50 finisher in 20.36. Carol Hollingworth was 48th (27.03).
At the Bromley parkrun, Allan Phillips was seventh (19.16), with Steve Smith 26th (22.08).
