Franklin Egobi makes his long awaited return to the ring in Prizefighter Heavyweights IV at York Hall, Bethnal Green, this Saturday evening.
The 34-year-old hasn’t fought since a controversial points defeat to Edgar Kalnars from Latvia two years ago.
But the 34-year-old, a PE teacher at Nightingale School in Tooting, has the opportunity to gatecrash through the top of the domestic division if he can beat some big names to the Prizefighter title.
His first round fight is against Irishman Kevin McBride, the last man to beat Mike Tyson, with the winner facing Ali Adams or Matt Skelton in the semi-final. Then there is the possibility of a clash with former British champion Michael Sprott in the final with £32,000 for the winner.
Nigerian-born Egobi, who claimed the IBF Continental Africa title in 2001, is a replacement in the event for Michael Holden.
The action is on Sky Sports 1 while tickets are available from Matchroom Sports on 01277 359900.
