Tadworth Athletics Club’s Geoff Newton took first prize in the men’s over-60 class at the Isle of Wight Fell Running Championships.
This involved running three races over two days at the Ventnor cliffs, running a total of 23 miles with 3,800ft of ascent. A season cross country runner, Newton coped well with the challenging conditions to finish 35th overall.
Meanwhile, in the Gibb five-mile cross country race at Farthing Down, Coulsdon, Tim Wilkes finished 12th (31 minutes, 26 seconds), with Dave Fisher 28th (37:13).
