Epsom College lower sixth former David Boote complete a unique double last week when he won the Kingswood Men’s Club Championship to add to the Walton Heath title he won in May.
A member of both clubs, the 16-year-old becomes the first player to win both titles in the same season.
He secured the Kingswood Trophy after a 36-hole matchplay final against Taz Sherwani to continue an excellent run of form that has also seen him win the Surrey Junior Masters at Burhill and the Surrey Schools Championships at Guildford.
Boote said: “I am so happy to have won the Kingswood championships as I have never previously progressed beyond the quarter-finals.
“I have been a member of Kingswood since I was eight and this means a lot to me.”
Boote has just been named by Great Britain Walker Cup captain Nigel Edwards in tier one of the Golf Union of Wales National Squad for 2010-11, the bigest level within the boys’ and men’s squad.
“The news from the Golf Union of Wales is the icing on the cake as it will mean access to national coaches at their centre of excellent at Celtic Manor, where the training facilties are amazing.”
Earlier this year, Boote represented Wales at the European Boys’ U18 Team Championships in Turkey, recording mtchplay wins over opposition from Sweden and the host country.
