Paul Coleman was crowned county singles champion for the fourth year in a row at the Surrey Indoor Bowling finals.
In a high-quality final, the Wey Valley bowler, a regular in the England senior international side, ran out a 21-12 winner over Croydon’s Alan Binns.
But Coleman, teamed up with Daniel Morris and Ian Honnor, was unable to make it a double in the men’s triples.
The pivotal moment came when the Wey Valley trio dropped a seven on end five to go six shots behind. Egham’s Norman Worley, Barrie Emanuell and Dave Simpson defended that stoutly to win 17-14.
Another close match saw John Ward, Paul Wilsher, Matthew Burchell and Gary Clarke, the young guns from Egham, beat Donyng’s Mike Dutton, Brian Gaunt, Gary Parsons and Robert Wicks 25-20.
Croydon’s Ted Barlow, runner-up last year, went one better this time around to beat Egham’s Mike Lambert 21-10 in the men’s over-60 singles.
The mixed pairs final was an all-Croydon affair, with Sarah Howick and Alan Binns beating Carole Cuell and John Gale 20-14.
In a one sided men's pairs final, Croydon's Alistair Howick & Graham Vigor were comfortable winners over Sutton's Terry Buckland and Steve Shanley.
In the mixed fours, Egham’s Chrissie Davis, Kelly Jenkins, Mike Sigamoney and Ian Jenkins beat Croydon’s Anne Warrington, Pat Bourne, Dave Warrington and John Gale 24-15.
