The world’s top athletic stars will descend on Crystal Palace this weekend for the Diamond League.

Jamaican Asafa Powell will be the main attraction in the men’s 100m on Friday night in the absence of Usain Bolt and the injured Tyson Gay.

Dayron Robles, the 110m hurdles Olympics champion, 800m world record holder David Rudishan, and British 5000m champion Mo Farah will also be getting in some much practice ahead of the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, which begin on August 27.

For UK athletes, the two days of competition on Friday and Saturday will be the last chance for them to claim a spot in the team, with UK athletics head coach Charles van Commenee set to name his squad on August 10.

Norbury’s Martyn Rooney will also be sweating on his place despite winning the trials.

The 24-year-old has not achieved the required A standard 400m time of 45.25 seconds, his time in Birmingham was 45.44, which would have guaranteed him his spot.
