London Broncos new boy Michael Robertson may have opened his Super League try scoring account at the weekend, but he says there is still work to do until he is in credit at the club.
The Surbiton-based Australian got himself on the scoresheet in Saturday’s 34-24 defeat to St Helens, but also gifted the opposition one on the season’s opening day to make it a bitter sweet start to his career at the Stoop.
In doing so, former Manly Sea Eagles hero Robertson, who lifted the NRL Premiership title Down Under last year, fulfilled a long-held ambition to play in England.
And the 28-year-old winger, one of 10 new arrivals at the club during the close season, admitted he was out to make up for his mistake when head coach Rob Powell’s men visit Warrington Wolves on Saturday.
“It was good to get over the line, but I gave one away at the other end so that pretty much makes me even, I reckon,” he said.
“Saints have been one of the top teams so there are plenty of positives.
“Everyone has been telling me about the differences between the game here and playing at home, but it is just another game of footy to me.
“We’ve got a tough game this weekend, but if we can put in a similar performance and sort a few things defensively, we will be strong.”
Powell has overhauled his personnel after last season saw his side win just six games with four of those coming in the opening five games.
Robertson got his side’s first score before further tries from Olsi Krasniqi and Chris Bailey Broncos an 18-16 lead at half-time, only for Saints to hit back after the break and make Michael Witt’s debut try just a consolation.
