Hounslow Borough, playing in the FA Vase for the first time this season, produced a giant-killing act on Saturday by winning 4-0 at Barking thanks to a Ryan O'Toole hat-trick.
They are now away to either Burnham Ramblers or Stanway Rovers in the third round and manager Dennis Bainborough is confident his unfancied side can go further.
Borough responded well to a rollocking from Bainborough following the previous week's 4-1 home defeat to Shortwood in the Hellenic League.
If anything they battled too hard and committed a series of fouls, which eventually led to player-coach Carlton Mitchell being sent off for a second yellow card in the 70th minute.
O'Toole opened the scoring after 13 minutes from a superb pass by the recalled Eddie Mee.
Artan Salui made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time and O'Toole struck twice more in the last 10 minutes.
Centre-half Phil Merritt, again playing in goal with Ben Miles unavailable and Adam Bark suspended, saved well from Mark Doyle, who later hit the bar.
Bainborough said: "We had to put up with some hostile Barking fans but we did not let it get to us.
"The players showed a big improvement after I threatened to replace them for not showing enough commitment.
"I assume they took to heart my instructions not to go out drinking on a Friday night and they have earned a reprieve."
One exception is right-back Kenny Dyer, who failed to turn up for the second time in three weeks and has been released.
Borough: P. Merritt; Mitchell, T. Merritt, Stevens, Salui; Keen (Muyiwa), Bates, St John, Taylor; Mee (Fletcher), O'Toole. Sub not used: Hutchinson.
Polish newcomers Thomaz Stasiak, a midfielder from Przysztosc, and Selwyn Kowalczewski, a centre-half from Lysica Bodzentyn, have finally been given international clearance and could make their debuts this Saturday at second-placed North Leigh.
On Tuesday (7.30pm) Hounslow host Ardley in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup at Ruislip Manor.
