Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Devonshire this week lifted his first silverware of the season.

Striker Lawrence Yaku followed up his match-winning strike at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday by hitting another as the Beavers beat Harrow Borough 2-0 to lift the Middlesex Super Cup on Tuesday.

Hampton fielded the same starting line-up that beat the Dons and dominated the match - although it was not until the final 20 minutes that they turned possession into goals.

After 73 minutes, Ian Hodges' shot was deflected into the path of Yaku, whose snapshot from eight yards found the net.

Then Ryan Lake made it 2-0 from the spot after sub Jon Henry-Hayden's break into the box had been illegally halted.

Hampton's return to winning ways, after a miserable September saw them ship nine goals in two games at one stage, has coincided with the return to fitness of centre-forward Hodges.

But Devonshire hailed the triumph, which came 24 hours after holding Brentford 1-1 in Monday's friendly, as a fine team performance, before adding two players would leave the club to make way for some fresh faces.

"For 90 minutes, we played good football in an excellent performance. We now know the way we want to play and the players leaving don't fit with those plans," he said, although he remained tight-lipped about the changes.

"I am not saying who is coming or going until next week because we should be talking about what a great week we have had.

"It has been fantastic and, with another break this weekend, we will be fresh and ready to face Heybridge Swifts, who I'm sure will be out for revenge after we beat them in the play-offs last year."

Against the Dons, Devonshire turned to the experience of centre-half Matthew Elverson to plug the gaps in a defence.

Besides a shaky opening ten minutes, the move paid off as the Beavers held on for the points after Yaku profited from an Andy Little gaffe in the Dons goal to net from a fumbled free-kick.
