Hounslow Borough, without an Hellenic League win for a month, crashed 5-1 at title-chasing North Leigh on Saturday after being reduced to 10 men with just five minutes gone.

Midfielder Gary Taylor was sent off for elbowing an opponent in an aerial challenge and Boro leaked three first-half goals, with stand-in keeper Phil Merritt not getting enough cover.

Boro gave a debut to Selwyn Kowalczewski, a defender from Polish side Lysica Bodzentyn who had waited two months for his international clearance, but he was taken off after 20 minutes and replaced by substitute Simone Muyiwa.

Hounslow's consolation goal came from Jon-Barrie Bates.

Borough: P Merritt; Kowalczewski (Muyiwa), T Merritt (Fletcher), Stevens, Taylor; Keen, Bates, St John, Mitchell; Mee (Charles), Salui.

Hounslow were better on Tuesday against leaders Ardley in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup at Ruilslip Manor, only to lose 3-2 to a goal 20 seconds from the end of extra-time. Boro, inspired by Justin Keen, twice came from behind to equalise, with goals from Ryan O'Toole and Artan Salui.

They took control in the second half, but Joe Charles missed a sitter by sending the ball against an upright from six yards in the last minute of normal time.

Boro also dominated extra-time, only to be robbed by the last kick of the match.

Borough: Miles; Barnes, T. Merritt, Stevens, Saliu (Mee); Keen, Bates, St John, Taylor; O'Toole, Charles (Muyiwa). Sub not used: Fletcher.

On Saturday, Hounslow host another high-flying side in Almondsbury Town and will be hoping to gain their first league win at their temporary home of Ruislip Manor.

Centre-half Merritt, who has been playing in goal as Ben Miles is unavailable, has undergone an operation on his groin and will be out for four weeks.

Kowalczewski and his fellow Polish newcomers Thomaz Stasiak are unlikely to be picked.
