Head coach Dean Birrell has warned his Streatham Redskins players they must improve if they are to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season at Milton Keynes on Sunday, writes Jon Fitzmaurice.

Redskins stayed top of the English National League South thanks to a 4-1 victory at home to Bracknell Hornets last Sunday - their fifth win on the trot.

But Birrell felt his team were in danger of becoming complacent.

"Although we came out clear winners, to be honest I was a little disappointed," he said.

"Just as against Cardiff last week, we conceded an early goal but, once we got back on level terms, we never really looked in danger of losing.

"We were always able to contain the opposition, but we didn't dominate them and we should have.

"We will have to do better if we we're going to come away from Milton Keynes with the points. Last week they held Invicta to a draw, so it is going to be a tough fixture."

Streatham got off to a bad start at the Ice Arena when, with five men on the ice to Bracknell's three, they allowed James Galazzi to elude the defence and place a shot wide of keeper James Tanner.

Redskins equalised through Ed Koral within a minute, and it was man-of-the-match Koral who gave his side a 23rd minute lead.

Two minutes from the end of the second period Perry Richardson made it 3-1 with an excellent unassisted short handed goal, ghosting through the defence to smash the puck into the top corner of the net.

Bracknell kept searching for a second goal during the third period, but to no avail, and it was Rich Hardy, a summer signing from Bracknell, who wrapped up the scoring in the 50th minute with an excellent long range shot that beat the unsighted keeper.

Streatham's next home match is against Oxford City Stars on Sunday, October 29 (6.45pm).
